We say, ‘Mend it Don’t End it’ and ‘Borrow don’t Buy’
and in so doing reduce the waste and landfill that occurs all too often

MEET ‘BATH SHARE AND REPAIR

In the 4 years since they began with a single cafe, the charity now has 10 cafes as well as a Library Of Things in Bath and North East Somerset. Their volunteers have seen more than 1,200 items, fixing things like singing teddy bears, mobile phones, numerous toasters and kettles, and many dresses, skirts and jackets. Sentimental things like model boats, weighing scales and old clocks have also been given a new lease of life. In short, the response has been incredible. It seems we all want to live this way!

“If you haven't been to a repair cafe yet, you should know there's something a bit special that goes on. Somehow, it's more than just a bunch of gadgets!

What we can help WITH

Our £1000 will enable the opening of two more repair cafes, one in Farnborough and the other in Bear Flat. This requires recruiting and training at least 20 volunteers to manage, administrate, monitor the event, repairers to repair with trained PAT Testers and volunteers to serve refreshments. Our money will pay for PAT Testers, a materials box, PAT test training for the volunteers, banners and rent for each cafe.

WHAT IT MAKES POSSIBLE

The project will deliver a Repair Café to the community at least once a month for at least 10 months a year. That means people can help fix things and get their things fixed!

PROJECT STATUS

Farmborough Repair Café is up and off! Here’s what wrote in Oct 2021… “We’d like to thank you for the funding that has helped us get our monthly repair session up and running, including our kit box, insurance and marketing. We’ve had a great three months with 12-15 items brought along every month so far and at least 70% of those items have either been fixed on the day or parts found and fitted the following month. We looking forward to keeping more items out of landfill!

The second one in Bradford upon Avon is set to open March 2022. We’ll keep you posted.
