Letter to your MP - quick version.

Dear____________MP

I am writing to you because of my concern that the UK (change according to your country) is not responding with sufficient commitment and urgency to the climate emergency.

Our rate of carbon emissions reductions suggests we are nowhere near meeting our climate change targets. The planet is already 1 degree hotter than it was compared to pre-industrial times, and we are on course to be 1.5 degrees hotter by 2030. There is currently no definitive roadmap for how we are going to achieve the level of carbon reductions necessary, nor concerted action towards it. I find this deeply concerning.

As my MP, I am asking you to call for stronger action on climate change. Please challenge the government to urgently and strongly support positive solutions. I will be using my vote to support the candidates who hold this front and centre of their political agenda and I will be active in encouraging others to do the same.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Best wishes

Letter to your MP - with suggestions for more context

Dear____________MP

I am writing to you because of my concern that the UK (change according to your country) is not responding with sufficient commitment and urgency to the climate emergency.

Say what has moved you to write - this might be a general concern for your children or grandchildren's future, recent news about the impacts of climate change (from the Arctic to the Great Barrier Reef, to new global temperature records there are unfortunately no shortage of these), or one particular policy issue you are concerned about.

Explain why you think your country’s current action on climate change is insufficient (if you know this). Include something positive, for example the falling cost of renewable energy, the potential for climate jobs to regenerate your local area or something you appreciate that your MP has done.

As my MP, I am asking you to call for stronger action on climate change. You can ask them to address a local issue such as poor air quality, fuel poverty, public transport, access to green spaces, cycle paths or new community energy projects. You can also to meet with your MP to discuss these issues further. Please challenge the government to urgently and strongly support positive solutions. I will be using my vote to support the candidates who hold this front and centre of their political agenda and I will be active in encouraging others to do the same.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Best wishes
