killer apps for (cool) pre-loved clothes

Why? Because it’s the new high street!

RE-USE FACT

There are enough clothes in the world today to dress 6 generations.

So last week we dove into the eco-best (and worst) fabrics so that we know what to do when we’re buying. But of course by far the most-eco friendly thing we can do is not to buy new.

That can make us feel instantly dowdy, can’t it…with visions of having to rake through charity clothes rails of TopShop seconds, all glamour gone. Au contraire! There’s no shabby in this chic! A revolution is happening…and its time is now!

We’ve curated the top online apps smashing it in this space as well as the UK’s most fashionable charity shops (think less charity and more ball) where those in the know go to seek out top finds. All we’ve got to do? Get into the habit of making these our first port of call!

Buy or sell: the top apps & online stores

Brilliant online market places where you can sell and buy your clothes. Shop by size, colour, brand, style and pretty much any other filter, with fast delivery and easy returns. Some even have the labels still on and you’ll save a ton too!

Rental: for the big occasions

A brilliant solution for a hot ticket occasion: look a million dollars without spending it and skip buying something that will sit in your wardrobe to be barely worn again. And clothing rental for kids…now we think about it, a waste-avoiding no-brainer!

The top of the charity shops:

Our picks of the curated second-hand quality finds. Not necessarily cheap! Oxfam, Westbourne Grove is also brilliant. Also pretty much any charity shop in Marylebone is worth the trip. Even Asda is joining in, and has launched its pre-loved vintage partnership. The mindset shift? Make this a destination trip like going to Liberty’s or Selfridges…

We…

Aimee: My niece has been leading by example for me - buying and selling on Vinted throughout lockdown. There’s some real steals to be had on these platforms and it’s making me think twice - it feels so good to find something that’s saving waste, saving money and looks great. So I’m in!

Sonia: New territory for me! Never really looked at these apps properly (except Depop a couple of years ago but it kind of overwhelmed me and I ran away). But I love the look of Thrift! So this is going to be my new experiment. The next time I need something I’ll go on to Thrift as first base. Exciting! Thinking maybe I need to road test it immediately..?
